Blog Post #2

At the beginning of this week, my senior project continued in a similar manner. Similar to the previous week, on Monday I did some more research on interior design and furniture design and sketched in my notebook.

What changed this week was I did significantly more hands-on work for my internship. I loved helping out with any tasks or information that they needed assistance with. On Tuesday I met them on-site at a client’s house. They had already remodeled the house but they had a few final touches. For a few hours, we assembled a chandelier and put up artwork on the walls. I also observed the unique furniture that they decorated the house with. There was a blue color palette for the whole house which gave me new insight into how to work with colors depending on a client’s preference.

On Wednesday I worked virtually for the internship. They had a zoom meeting with another client. They were at the beginning of remodeling a large apartment. In the meeting, they discussed light fixture options, furniture options, and more. This type of work was exactly what I had aspired to do during this project. I was so fascinated with the different options they were presenting to the clients and it was also interesting to see how Adam and Mishi had to hone in on the taste of a client and present various options that could work. If those options didn’t work they problem solved and gave alternative possibilities to the client. Even small things like the logistics of space and the amount of light were very beneficial for me to learn.

Thursday I went in person to the internship and I first started organizing the material closet. I reorganized fabrics, stones, wood, papers, books, and more. I love organization and materials so I felt pretty satisfied with the outcome. After that, I went uptown to take measurements and reference photos of a preschool that the firm is designing. After that, I went back to the firm and I helped construct and layout printed plans of a piece of furniture for the preschool. This day was very helpful so I could see the more technical side of working at a design and architecture firm. Even seeing the floor plans of the preschool and having to understand what I was looking at was a new experience that will help me with my future with design.

On Friday I compiled the photographs I took that week and I wrote down some notes for myself. I also experimented and refreshed my Adobe Illustrator.

Continuing with my project, I am toying with the idea of making a website or some sort of laid out digital flier containing some of the work that I’ve been doing. I think it could also give me a chance to work with web design and digital design when I’m not at the internship. I think if I end up doing this, I could also do more photography and digital collaging to continue my crossover interest with art and design.
