Joe Rosenblum Blog Post #2

As I have approached the midpoint of my senior project experience one question remains lingering in my mind while I do my work. So what? In case the reader doesn’t already know, I am creating a tourist guide for New York City where I design day trips for incoming tourists with a local perspective. Why does this matter is a question I am thinking about at this very moment when writing this blog post. To examine this question I must define why something would ever matter in any context. Let’s take a look at my experiences and revisit this question.

Since the last blog post, I have had a couple of trips to various places across the five borrows. One highlight in particular of my senior project experience was my trip to flushing Queens. I am planning on creating a trip revolving around attending a sporting event or concert that would take place at Citi Field. Citi Field is the home of the New York Mets which happens to be my favorite sports team but the game experience is severely hindered by one major aspect. It is so expensive to get food or drinks at Citi Field which can be solved by one easy thing. Getting food outside of Citi Field would solve this problem because then people wouldn’t have to buy food inside of the stadium. My friend and I did some research to find a place in Flushing Queens that would be a good spot to go to before or even after a baseball game. We stumbled upon a Chinese food restaurant that had some of the best food we both had ever had. The restaurant was called Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao and was located in the Chinatown of Flushing. I highly recommend anyone reading this to go eat there.

Another aspect of my senior project is fulfilling my buckets and one bucket that has stuck out the most is the service bucket. Every Saturday me and a few friends all volunteer at an event that is called the challenger games. The challenger games, which is run through Greenwich Village Little League, is a place where special needs children are given a space to play baseball. Every weekend I volunteer and get the opportunity to help children get better at baseball. In all honesty, this has been the best part of my senior project experience so far. If it wasn’t for senior project who knows if I would have stumbled upon this opportunity and had this amazing experience. I plan to continue volunteering past senior projects final day.

Revisiting my first paragraph talking about why something would ever matter, I think value is defined by what you make of it. I think anything can matter to anyone if they care enough about what they are doing. I care about what I am doing because I want to help someone when they visit the city to have a great experience. My day trips guide will help them get that experience.
