This project has been very up and down. My project was inspired by my very passions, fashion and photography. I wanted to find a way to Incorporate both of these hobbies of mine into one project. Another aspect I wanted to bring into this project was my care for the earth. I have learned a lot about fast fashion this past year and wanted to learn how I can do my best part to stop it. I got really into thrifting last year and wanted to find a way to use my interest of thrifting, fashion, photography, and care for the earth into one big project. I have been thrifting, finding old barley used clothing, and changing them. I have been altering, embrooridring, painting, and hemming. While I have very little experience with sewing, I have been learning how to use a sewing machine slowly. I have watched tutorials, learned in the sewing seminar, and watched my partner in this project Mae use it her self. While it has been challenging, every day I have been getting better at it. My goals in this project are to make as many upcycled clothing as possible, but I have realized things take much longer to make than expected. My main goal now is the continue practicing, and mastering the skills I need to continue creating clothing even after this project. Though we have made progress on our clothing, there have been many bumps in the road. We started off with many tutorials, mood boards, and sketches. While Mae and I both have so many ideas, it’s hard to put them all to life. I have been personally practicing my sewing machine skills, because not only does it help me in this project, but it is a skill I have always wanted to have and now have the opportunity to master it. While it hasn’t gone exactly as planned so far in the way of making much, I am very happy with our progress thus far. We have both picked up many new skills that we can take with us later in life. This project has also pushed me to be motivated, and work on my own time which can be challenging. It’s one thing coming into school every day, but knowing I have to complete all of this and work every day with only myself pushing me has been challenging, but also incredibly rewarding. I have learned that I need to set timers and a specific schedule for myself in order to complete the work I need to complete. This project has made me much more organized and motivated by myself, which are both important skills I need. The photography aspect of this project comes in when we finish our clothing line. We have decided that we want to set up formal modeling shoots and practice photography and use our creativity to set up cool scenes. We have picked many places around the city and in our homes that we have already set up as model shots. We also want to represent everyone in our modeling, all body sizes, genders, races. I am excited to embrace my creativity during this part and follow my eye for a good shoot.
