Your Name: Mason Rosse
Your Project Title: Exploring the Music Industry
Overview: Describe your topic and project and how you will measure success (300 words minimum: make your project come to life)
I have spent 2 out of my 4 years making music in isolation due to covid. Because of this, I have not had any opportunities to involve myself in the professional world. The purpose of my project is both to better my artistic skills and to gain experience in the industry. For my project, I will be spending 27 hours a week interning in a studio, and 1 hour a week teaching film class to a public school in Brooklyn.
Through my internship, I hope to familiarize myself with the workings of the industry, learn how to use professional equipment, and work on my music in any free time I have. This will challenge me because I have never worked in a professional studio before and will prepare me for what my future career will require. I will also have time to work on my creative endeavors, meaning that I will be filling both the experience and creativity buckets. Through my teaching opportunity, I hope to learn how to better articulate myself, learn how to work in schools, and learn what I have taken for granted while growing up with funded art programs. I would have to create and execute engaging lesson plans within the limited equipment that these schools have. This will challenge me because I have never taught in a class setting like this before and I will have to learn how to create very engaging lesson plans for middle schoolers.
I will measure my internship’s success through the skills I gain, the people I connect myself with, and how my mindset changes about the art world. I will measure my success in the teaching opportunity by how engaged the students become with film. The combination of both of these opportunities will better me both as an artist and as a person.
