You are one week into the Senior Project Experience. How is your project matching up to your expectations or dreams? What did you expect coming in to the project? What have you discovered? How have your experiences of the past week affected your expectations going forward? Be specific and reflective in your response.
I am actually three weeks into my project. I started very early, and boy is this internship something! The first day I got introduced to everyone at ACE (its only about 15 people in NY, and 5 in LA, 1 in NJ). Everyone was super nice and interested in me, and I felt immersed in their little high functioning family. That first week nobody really knew what to do with me, and Justin wasn’t there (who is the boss there and also my connect), so I pretty much winged it and rolled my chair over to the people with the most accessible and interesting work for an intern. The creatives. Chelsie and David were brainstorming about ads for a romance TV show and were happy to accommodate me and my suggestions and naïve questions. The internship has exceeded my expectations and dreams. We are working on exciting projects for TV shows and movies that I would or was already excited to see! It is cool to be behind the scenes, knowing top secret information after signing my NDA, etc. I have even gotten a line of copy to work as the final line! I am learning so much new ad-world terminology each day, and have gotten used to the communication style of the office. Since there hasn’t been a set structure to my internship, I have mainly been helping out however I can in brainstorming creative for projects, collecting info and data, and completing any tasks my coworkers delegate to me. I have also been asking questions to learn about the process each project necessitates. I’ve worked on advertising for the upcoming minions movie, a tiktok dating tv show, researching a subsection of the wine market, a show based on a book about a toxic relationship, a show on a psychic lady in LA, and a jewelry ad where the influencer involved was someone I recognized from my youtube feed! Everyone is very non-passive aggressive in the sense that they are clear with others in what they want and make jokes and show appreciation for each other, yet also very indirect and polite in their phrasing of criticism and needs. It is a great shift from school because if I feel bored on one task, I can switch to another as there is always another task/project that needs working on. Going forward I expect to do more busy work, balanced with more creative behind the scenes brainstorming. I also expect to keep learning more about the process of developing an ad and how that relates with the client’s needs. The food around the office is very good, as they have a kitchen with coffee and tea and jolly ranchers. Outside of the office they also have Balthasar for special occasions But I normally go to Ruby’s café, which is delicious.
