Protect our winters is an organization that strives to bring change in regards to the world’s attitude towards climate change. Skiing and snowboarding are huge categories and parts of the adventure sports industry. Jeremy Jones, the founder of this organization talks about his recollection of his favorite ski resorts being closed down due to the absence of snow. This is an exact representation of the direct impacts us as human beings have on the world around us. This organization does tremendous work in raising money as well as going in front of congress to lobby and advocate for what is right. They are a huge inspiration to me and to the entire industry of adventure sports. Unfortunately, there are not many organizations like this one that are working to bring change to this issue. We know that we are causing a huge impact on the environment around us but we are waiting for people around us to solve it.
Adventure Sports Tourism:

Radmann, Aage, et al. “Sustainability Comes to Life. Nature-Based Adventure Tourism in Norway.” Frontiers, 11 June 2021, https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fspor.2021.686459/full. Accessed 29 March 2022.
The world around us is essentially our playground. It is where we do everything. Tourism is a big aspect of a lot of countries’ economies furthermore, tourism in regards to nature (hiking, biking, national parks) being very beneficial for money also takes a huge toll on the environment. The more time we spend in these locations, the more we must be conscious of the impact we are having on them. It should be our goal to leave every place on earth as we found it and that starts by learning about the impact that we are having on the world and environment around us. More and more people are wanting to spend their time in the outdoors, tourist agencies are noticing this and adapting. This adds a larger footprint on this environment. If we are spending more time in these places, we have to take a more focus on the way we are treating these places. There is money to be made in spending time here. We just have to do it in an ethical way.
Manufacturing Extreme Sports Products

Radmann, Aage, et al. “Sustainability Comes to Life. Nature-Based Adventure Tourism in Norway.” Frontiers, 11 June 2021, https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fspor.2021.686459/full. Accessed 29 March 2022.
Although extreme and adventure sports use the environment heavily for each of their own activties, the way we manufacture products in these specialties can have a damaging effect on that very environment. This source talks about this pressing issue. This very issue is a big conflict in regards to this industry because it acts as almost a push and pull when you are doing this activity. We must ask ourselves if it is ethical to be creating the tools and products we use in this way while also using them out in nature and the world around us. This is a big issue that I struggle and contemplate when I do these various activities in my day to dsy life. Is it truly ethical?

“Bouldering in Central Park.” Central Park, 9 October 2017, https://www.centralpark.com/things-to-do/sports/bouldering/. Accessed 29 March 2022.
Central park acts as a very good place to be able to rock climb or boulder in an outdoor location. Because of the natural topography of central park, there are a wide variety of different projects that can be used throughout the park. There is also a wide range of different challenges throughout the park making it a perfect place to go check out. The difference in difficulty throughout all the climbs will make it a perfect place to go climb.
Mental Health Benefits and Impact on Humans:
Hanna, Paul, et al. “Active engagement with nature: outdoor adventure tourism, sustainability and wellbeing.”
This paper is a very fascninating analysis on the impacts that nature and these various activities have on both humans and the environment. It talks about our relationship to nature and the world around us in a very interesting way that I believe is incredibly important in understanding our impact on the environment around us in doing these sports. We often like to think about these sports and activities as direct one way targets but in reality everything affects everything. This entire thing is a well rounded cycle that is often treated as a one way street.
