One of my options for college is majoring in television screenwriting and production, so this article helped me gain a more concrete understanding of all the aspects involved in this profession. Having this understanding, especially about the steps to go through in order to be qualified and competitive as a screenwriter will be very beneficial to me, both during my internship, through college, and as I start working.

“Why Actors Should Get into Filmmaking?”

This article stresses the importance of being a well rounded actor who has experience and expertise in many different aspects of the industry, not just acting.

This kind of versatility will be beneficial to me if I choose to pursue a career in either screenwriting or acting. In fact, I would benefit from being well rounded with any career in this industry. Overall having a more complete understanding and skill set of the work you are both involved in and surrounded by will elevate me and make me more qualified for jobs. I have already seen improvements in my acting just from my involvement working on production aspects. And being surrounded by and watching professional actors at work has also been a huge benefit, there is so much to learn from

“’Orange Is the New Black’ Star Laura Prepon Goes inside ‘Brutal’ Torture Scenes.”

This article is an interview with Laura Preopn, an actress who made her directorial debut on an episode of Orange is the New Black, a show that she starred in. She discussed her experience of acting in a scene, but viewing it through the lens of a director as she watched her castmates. She was always interested in directing, having been around it her whole career, and she relished the opportunity to get to try it herself. She emphasized how she really understood how to talk to actors because she had been acting herself for so long.

Since starting this internship I actually had the experience of working on set with Laura Prepon. I watched as she expertly navigated around the cameras, and while her acting alone was impressive, it was evident that she had a deep understanding of how the production worked. Filming the entire day went so smoothly, and she was approaching her scene not just from the perspective of an actor, but understanding what would read well on camera. She was a clear example of how beneficial it is to understand and have experience in multiple areas of the industry.

“Are Reality TV Stars, Actors?”

Most of the projects that Vivian Sorenson works on are reality television shows in some capacity. I was interested in having a deeper understanding of what it means for both actors and the people involved when the television is not explicitly scripted, or has to present as real.  I have begun to understand how the truth in reality television can be manipulated to fit the story the network wants to tell, and this article helped articulate and clarify that for me.

“Netflix’s ‘Grand Army’ Is Based on an Amalgamation of Harrowing True Stories.”

This article provides an introduction to a Netflix show ‘Grand Army’ and then discusses the creator of the show and the processes behind its creation.

I was a part of the acting company that the creator and writer of the show founded. Each class we talked about the week and shared things that had happened. I was unaware until after I watched the show, how much my experiences and the experiences of my classmates, Katie had incorporated into her show. It was jarring to see these incidents that my friends had discussed in class, suddenly become story arcs in a hit tv show. This article confirms that much of the show had storylines inspired and influenced by Katie’s students. I am currently writing a tv show of my own that I will continue for senior project. Similarly to ‘Grand Army’, my show revolves around my experiences, and those of my closest friends. It is almost a combination of ‘Grand Army’ (realistic nyc teen storylines and experiences) and ‘Gossip Girl’, (going to a NYC private school and being surrounded by or having immense privilege). The show was a huge inspiration because it showed me that the experiences my friends and I have do deserve to be shared, and that people want to hear them.
