How Dickies’ Workwear Went From Old Reliable to High Fashion
- Dickies themselves are using pieces from their past and recreating them in the present. They are using their enormous back catalog of clothing and design to inspire their high fashion Dickies 1922 collection. It’s a way of both celebrating and preserving their history in American workwear. Most of the products I have worked on recently are dickies products because of how well they are made and how perfectly they serve as a blank template to work off of. It’s interesting to hear that dickies themselves are also interested in using their history in a way that informs the present. The key difference in the approach is that dickies is reworking old ideas and making new things while I’m reworking old objects and bringing both new and old ideas to them. We are both looking to the past for inspiration.

Crust Pants: The Filth and the Fury
- Reading this article was inspiring to me in making my clothing for a number of reasons. It showed what is possible with crust punk pants if you dedicate years and years to their creation. It also showed how long a single pair of pants can last if you do regular maintenance. Most people would have gone through many many pants in the same amount of time. It was also very interesting to see how they built a story of their wear by keeping certain holes and exposing certain patches. This article helped me better understand how I can repair and fix things in a way that adds to clothing aesthetically and functionally
