Charlie Thackway Critical Reflection #2

Through just my first week of working on my project, I have uncovered a lot about the work I am doing, but also myself. In taking the class in After Effects, which is a very fast-paced and at times confusing one, I have seen ways that I learn best. As I expected, there, have been times in my process of learning where I need to figure out problems for myself, and I have found those to be some of the most valuable experiences, where I have gone off of what the class has taught me and explored delved deeper through my own interests. Specifically, this happened yesterday when I was working with a specific animation that I could not figure out, I ended up playing around with different effects and parameters and creating something entirely different than what the class had said. But I loved what I had made, and I think it’s one of the best things I have animated so far. This idea connects to my essential question because moments like these where I think for myself and go one more step are the basis of my whole project, exploring my interests and discovering new things.

I am at a point in the course where I feel skilled enough to start work on my final project and am very excited to do so, but in every lesson, there are still pieces that cement my knowledge and I can feel my skills growing, and although I am in a good place at the moment, I will be even better in a week from now.

On the music side of my project, I have been making good progress, experimenting with different sounds and mixing, but it has been a little bit challenging gaining momentum on this portion as my After Effects course is the priority at the moment. Over the next week, I am going to further incorporate my music into the visual aspect of my work, which I am excited to do.
