Learning Goals-
- I want to develop my voice as a writer and as someone who is “critiquing” films. Hopefully, through the weekly essays, I will naturally find a voice/writing style that properly expresses my opinions.
- I want to try to answer the questions: What makes film a unique and singular medium for communication? And, how do we as spectators interact with film in comparison to other art forms? Although I will not answer these questions specifically in every weekly blog post, I do want to use them as a guide which will hopefully help me answer them by the end of the 6 weeks.
- I want to be able to form my own opinions on film through conversation and research using different resources and perspectives
General Work Plan
Since my project is pretty repetitive each week, this vague action plan is the same each week, just with different movie options. I have put down my initial collection ideas, however, these may be changed depending on how I’m feeling that week.
Week 1- Watch a collection of movies “Women in horror”, do research on each movie, write a personal essay.
Week 2- Watch a collection of movies “The Twilight Saga” do research on each movie, write a personal essay.
Week 3- Watch a collection of movies “Historical/Period Pieces” do research on each movie, write a personal essay.
Week 4- Watch a collection of movies “Cult Classics” do research on each movie, write a personal essay.
Week 5- Watch a collection of movies “Best Picture Winners” do research on each movie, write a personal essay.
Week 6- Watch a collection of movies (TBD) do research on each movie, write a final personal essay.
Documentation Plan
I will be sharing my writing in a blog that I will update weekly with my essay for each theme. The final product will be a collection of these essays. I am planning on keeping a “daily journal” with short entries and notes for the movies I see as I watch them. I can make separate blog posts for my process which includes notes, finding that I found that week that helped me write my essay.
