We spoke with Karyn and Kara.
Our idea for senior project is to do a deeper dive into the ways covid has impacted New York City. Both of us having grown up in different neighborhoods/boroughs gives us the opportunity to have multiple perspectives. We want to answer the essential question “How has covid impacted the culture of NYC?” We plan on doing this by documenting the city as it had transitioned from pre-covid to mid-covid, and is transitioning now (hopefully) to post-covid times as the vaccine is being released. Exploring the history of the city through restaurants, museums, historical landmarks, parks, tourist attractions, small businesses, and the people who live here, we will gain an understanding of how the city has changed in the past year. We want to present our findings in a number of different ways to allude to the diversity in the city, through podcasts, interviews, writings, photos and videos which will all be collected on a blog created by us. Not only will we be visiting these places, but also interviewing those who run them to get a perspective on the businesses themselves, but also the behind the scene of the people who make up the city and its culture. We both know small business owners, and have different connections throughout the city which will be useful for interviews. We could even interview our own classmates from different neighborhoods to get an even deeper perspective.
This is a much stronger plan, and I think you are ready to pitch — however, make sure you have a Covid-proof backup plan as well (not necessarily a joint plan, probably better if the backup plan is individual), since an increase in case rates could yet force additional shut downs while vaccines are not yet fully rolled out.
