Since I’ve been little, I have always been exposed to many different sorts of food. From the various foods offered in New York to the specialties in France like moules-frites and crepes. Food culture and the process that people take to make their food comes from much further cultural backgrounds. For my senior project, my essential question is: How do the culinary arts reflect the cultural and historical backgrounds in each state?
This is an opportunity where I can, along with Jack, Victor and Yannik, go deeper into the culinary arts of differing cultures, cities, and food. We will split into two groups and explore separate specific topics in depth still moving and exploring these cities together. Our plan is to fly to Nashville where we will be able to rent a cheap car (you can be 18) and from there, drive to cities known for their amazing different types of food that come from historical and cultural backgrounds. Exploring what process goes into the cooking and why. We will stop at some of the known restaurants in the area. This culinary art project will include interviews with chefs and restaurant owners in relation to what goes on behind the scenes in the kitchen. This trip will also include many separate questions such as why are those specialites connected to their city and region, and how they differ from other cities and states around them. This project is something deep in my heart because I have such a strong desire and interest to be able to finally explore how there is such a wide variety of foods and culture across the United States.
A backup plan would be driving to a few cities on the east coast such as Philadelphia, Maryland, Virginia, and more. If it is not possible either, I would pursue making music and producing my own songs, as well as mixing them.
