Dylan Winter Working Draft Blog Post #1

One essential question I have is what is it like to work in EMS as a full-time job as opposed to on a volunteer basis. What challenges do the EMTs and medics face on a daily basis? How do they differ between community volunteers, private, municipal, and voluntary units? These essential questions are important to me because having only come at this field as a volunteer, I definitely do not get the same experience as someone who is full time, despite the fact that we are responding to the same calls. It is also important to shed some light on these under-appreciated and underpaid essential first responders. For the experiential portion, I could one, obviously work as a full-time EMT. Another option is to provide some insight for young kids and adults as to what it is that EMTs and paramedics do on a daily basis, how to call 911 effectively, and a number of other little known things that more people should know about. It is definitely doable for me to do some kind of paid job in EMS like starting at Senior Care or some other private agency. Depending on how COVID plays out in the next couple of months, I may be able to work full time for the agency I am already at. I also could perform some kind of function in a hospital although that is highly unlikely given the COVID situation.
