For my Senior Project, I really want to be able to connect to, and educate younger children. The essential questions driving my thinking so far are:
- How can I create meaningful programming for children in an ever-changing world?
- What makes programming engaging, and useful, for children?
- How can I make a lasting impact on children through a short program?
In order to answer these questions, I can get an internship at Girl Scouts, an organization that I have been a part of for 10 years and has impacted me in more ways than anything else I’ve done. I can help the programming team host events for girls, whether they be badge workshops, Journey-in-a-day programs, and other special events such as speakers.
This idea would be feasible for me to do. It wouldn’t need any outside resources, and I have contacts at Girl Scouts in the programming department from when I participated as a mentor in a program last year. The head of the department said that she thought I would be great for an internship, and we could set it up whenever I needed to. The good thing about this project is that it would work in-person or online. Girl Scouts is not opening their headquarters until January, so I am assuming it would take place online, but they are hosting many online workshops for girls that I could easily help with and plan in the future.
