Reason:

I realized that I would like to do a project with something that I am deeply interested in and read/watch media about often which is food. A show that I regularly watch, Chef’s Table, on Netflix had a segment where a chef talked about the intersections of cuisine, food, xenophobia, and racism. After watching that segment I realized that I want to do a senior project that expands on that conversation.

 

Resources:

I’ve always been interested in food so I think taking this angle on it will be something new and allow me to have interesting nuanced conversations with people. From the purpose match activity and real life experience, I know that I like talking to people and have a relatively east time connecting with people.

 

Result:

I would like to use my skills connecting and talking to people to have a conversation about the intersections of food, cuisine, xenophobia and racism. I would like to display something that shows my process and answers the questions I have. I think a lot of other people probably have similar questions to the ones I have so I want my project to be easy to understand so that others can also benefit from my work. I would love the opportunity to talk to people in the restaurant business, food bloggers/reviewers, and discuss their process, as well as anyone who has insight into different cuisines and how they’re regarded.

After thinking about the shows I like to watch and my interest in food I thought about how a project about how xenophobia and racism impact food reviews and how some food cuisines are regarded I realized my senior project could open up a conversation about things that I think aren’t talked about enough. This realization of the importance of starting conversations I believe aren’t held enough also applies to other senior project ideas I have.

 

Resources:

I didn’t necessarily “realize” this interest, I knew that I want my senior project to have to do something with food because that is something I read a lot about and watch a lot of media about. I also like to have conversations about food with people who really know about it or are in a career related to it so I think I would be good at having those conversations because in the purpose match it said charisma and connection were my greatest strengths.

 

Result:

I’m not sure how to combine my reason and resource into a purpose statement, but I know that I am good at talking to people and connecting with them so I hope I can do that and have conversations about the things I am interested in, like food. I hope to make a project that shows my process and answers to the questions I had and many different perspectives
