Your Reason, Your Story: I find purpose in a mix of personal passions and a sense of helping the earth itself and therefor the people who live here. My close relationship with the ocean (I like to think of it as a life force) has led me to my senior project idea, and my desire to help the climate as much as I can.
Your Resources, Your Strengths: Over the summer I discovered a passion in creating surfboards. It fit right into my love for design and innovative thinking. I think it really showed me that I can create anything I want with my hands, not only that, but to creatively express myself through the things I create. I plan to continue building boards through the school year, this will give me more experience in the art of sculpting and the other aspects of board building, skills that I need for perusing this project.
Your Result State Your Purpose: My purpose is to restore, reuse, and sustainably create so that our natural environment is better off. I wanna use my skills as a creator, and sculptor to show the industry of board making that sustainability is necessary, more efficient, and surprisingly easy to do. My goal is to get the word out there, I want board builders to know that if a kid can do it they can too with just a little bit of effort. But fame isn’t where we find purpose, so I am happy with looking down at my feet and seeing something that only I know is helping the environment even in the smallest way.
Share Your How: I’m going to build high quality and high performance surfboards in a sustainable manner. I will do research finding the most cost efficient and environmentally friendly materials to use and at the same time find snapped or broken boards (there are many) that are ready for the trash and bring them back to life.
What will you do/make? Give a call to action: I want people to believe. I find that so many of us have given up and have lost motivation, and rightfully so. It really does seem like the world is spiraling downwards in so many ways (especially environmentally) But by taking these small steps and doing what you can as an individual change can happen. Once people start to believe, I think that resources and support will follow.
