I think that exploring my essential question was pretty much what I expected, though I have had to tackle the hurdles of things like plot elements that I usually manage to avoid by not sticking a story out until the end. Though it has proved challenging, I think that I have been able to make enough of an outline for myself to stick to while also giving myself room to have fun getting from place to place, so to speak.
I am unsurprised by the challenges I have faced so far, considering they were the sorts of challenges I expected when trying to create a fiction piece as well as those expected by working in the web medium. I think that the only thing that I tried to achieve and was unable to was to be able to add ambient music to the background of the piece, but that was a limitation of the software I chose as opposed to my own abilities, and additionally was not integral to the storytelling, so I feel okay scrapping that idea.
So far what I have learned about my essential question is that while the interactive element has been integral to the story, the majority of my work has been done simply fleshing out characters and letting their story arcs guide me in the direction of where I know I want the story to go. I want to see if I am able to implement more interactive elements to add to the story, but I think that I have a good balance of straight text and interactivity so far, though if I have time I intend to add more interactive elements and flesh out those that are already existing.
