What growth or understanding did you experience through the Senior Project? How has the experience changed you, or your concept of yourself? Consider skills, attitudes, habits, resources, capabilities,, etc. Are you more confident of your abilities?
Senior Project taught me a lot about my work ethic as an artist and new habits I can use to improve my practice. Before this trimester, I had already experienced the process of dedicating myself solely to working on a piece of art. However, I had never focused on a project for this long before or made a comic. The process of learning a new art while creating this piece is exciting and challenging; sometimes I would feel like I was very far along and other times I realized over and over that this is one of the most time-consuming projects I have ever made. I am so grateful that I have learned how to make a comic, as I found learning the structure and process of creating one helps me imagine all of the projects I can create. It’s like now that I know how to create a skeleton, I can not only create one person but a whole civilization! In the future, I want to use the skills I learned to make more projects. Not only do I feel prepared to make more comics in the future, but I also feel more confident in creating larger, more detailed and immense projects that normally I would think are too difficult or time consuming. The way I have been able to focus on this piece gives me faith that I can focus on other areas of my life as well, such as how I want to learn Spanish in college.
This comic taught me that your relationship with your art can change a million times as it is being created. At first, I was really embarrassed about how my comic looked and worried that it would be boring and no one would look at it closely. The more progress I made on it the more and more proud of my work I became, but at the same time, I lived in fear that I was going to mess it up and that it had already looked its best before I could finish it. Working on something that is so personal to my family makes this project even harder because I care about how it turns out so much. I find that when I dedicate my work to other people, I tend to do a much better job on it than I would if it was just for me.
