I recently have mainly been studying for my EMT final exam. When beginning my EMT class, I had no idea how much information I would be getting tested on. Not only do I need to learn specific treatments for certain medical situations, but I also need to learn human anatomy and physiology. To remember certain biological mechanisms, I have been drawing systems and labeling them with their parts and functions.
This is an example of a spinal diagram I did to remember the different spinal columns:
There are 33 bones in the spine called vertebrae. These vertebrae are divided into 5 sections: the cervical (which has 7 bones and is responsible for breathing, head and neck movement, heart rate, shoulder movement, and wrist and elbow movement), thoracic (which has 12 bones and is responsible for heart rate, temperature regulation, and trunk stability), lumbar (which has 5 bones and is responsible for hip movement, knee extension, foot motion, and knee flexion), sacrum (which has 5 bones and is responsible for bowel and bladder activity, etc.), and the coccyx (AKA the tailbone) (which has 4 bones and is responsible for supporting you while you sit).
Another example I have is the anatomy and physiology of the heart. I labeled all the steps with purple numbers to understand the root of blood traveling through the heart.
