This week I visited St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral and an interesting sculpture door at 102 Greene street.
St. Patrick’s Cathedral was built over 200 years ago on the corner of Mott and Prince Street in Soho. It was originally the center of the Irish community in old New York, now it is a tool that unites Catholics through worship, social groups, and spiritual guidance.
William Tarr is responsible for the gorgeous cast iron door and panel at 102 Green Street. Back in 1881, it was a 5 story building built by Henry Fernbach as part of the Cast Iron District. In 1887, there was a horrendous fire that burned down 2 stories of the building, which were removed in 1941. The door now remains as a iconic entrance for the DXA studio building which resides there now.
