I have been surprised by the way my creative process has formed and certain habits I’ve picked up along the course of this project. It has become key for me to be outside and in different environments, especially in parks/around nature because it has helped me generate ideas and open my mind. I like to free write after a walk or bike ride, and use some of those free writes for song lyrics and ideas. In general it has been helpful to write everyday because the writing has been getting deeper and more complex everyday. I also found that I had trouble writing a full song, so when I would get tired or writers block on one song I would move on to a different one and become much more motivated to continue working. I have also started to get into the habit of analyzing and breaking down other artists’ songs to find the parts that I really like and want to incorporate in my own music.
At this point I still have a lot to learn, but specifically for my project I want to focus more on getting a final product and learning how to finish a song and put it all together. Since I know that it is best for me to write songs in pieces I now have to figure out how to finish all of them and organize the song structure. I need to learn about the structure I want my songs to be in, and I am going to play around with that this week and try to find the ones that best fit each song (in terms of verses/chorus/pre-chorus etc.) I have learned a lot about telling my story and sharing my experience through songs but need to be able to wrap up the songs in a way that the story comes to a satisfying end in each song.
