Now that the weather is getting warmer people are coming to the park to get fresh air and enjoy themselves. This as one might expect, leads to many many accidents. This weekend was no exception, the temperature was in the 70s and the day was BUSY. Multiple pedestrians struck by bicycles, vehicles, tons of falls. One such example was a pediatric patient inside Central Park. The patient was riding their bicycle when they stood up on the pedals. Their knee collided with the seat post and they fell off their bike. Upon our arrival, the patient was in absolutely no pain, just unable to walk or bend their leg. When I examined the patient’s leg, I found an isolated patella dislocation, a common injury that as an EMT I am actually allowed to correct and reset after calling a doctor for authorization. However, I decided against this as the patient was in no pain. So instead we splinted the leg in place and transported the patient over to the hospital. We transferred care to the hospital and I spoke with the patient’s guardian over the phone. Finished up my documentation and rolled right up on another patient who had been struck by a bike. That day we started attempting to get lunch around 2:30 in the afternoon, my shift finished at 8:00, we never did get lunch that day.
