I am fully exploring my essential question, but maybe not completely as planned. At first I thought the best way to go about it was by interviewing adults that are in control of the sports programs and touring their facilities to see what they offer to their students. Now halfway through this project I have come to explore my question differently, to see what makes people want to go to anything that isn’t required or providing money. I have talked to kids from different schools and our own about their experiences with their sports programs, as well as analyzed why people have hobbies they are committed too with zero responsibility to participate. My biggest challenge is communication, it is hard to get in touch with busy athletic directors who may or may not have the answers to my questions and that has forced me to take different paths to find answers. I have found that people will not skip things they enjoy, and it’s really that simple, if they think going to practice is fun they will go, but if they are angry about not receiving playing time they will ditch the team. It is not selfish of them they just want to be happy, the environment on a team is the most important thing to keeping kids involved. The coach must find a way to incorporate everyone into activities without hurting a team’s chances at winning, a balance is hard to find but must be found.

  1. Vic, this response is pretty scattered. What do you mean by: “Now halfway through this project I have come to explore my question differently, to see what makes people want to go to anything that isn’t required or providing money.”? I’m lost there.

Also, have you tried going to the school(s) you’re interested in to talk to ADs? What questions do you have? Could you send them via email? Does Peter Fisher have a way of contacting them? Cc me on your emails and I will try to follow up with them as well.
