In this week, I’ve been prioritizing my time in the studio. Ive realized that having resources online such as Song Exploder and my Protools Mixing Master class has not only mentally prepared me, but has informed me on new and different types of sounds that are crucial to young musicians. My essential question is: How can I create a 4 song EP using Protools and mix it myself. These outside resources, one, prepare me for the steps I will have and need to take to bring my songs to the next level. It has prepared me to become less of a singer and more of a producer and mixer. I’ve always wanted to be able to make songs and have the ProTools knowledge to make my songs better. This includes finding the right plugins and different sounds. Song Exploder has prepared me for the hard work and time it really takes to make songs. On the one side, I am understanding the specific steps artists are taking. Artists like Porter Robinson takes the instrumental first then decides to write his lyrics and find his melody for the song. Ultimately, I am getting closer and closer to successfully answering my essential question and that is because my outside resources along with my eagerness to play around and learn about plugins on my own time. I have come to understand that to create a 4 song EP in only a couple weeks, you need to know how to successfully operate a DAW like ProTools, and you need to have a gameplay or step by step process of how you are going to put together these songs. So far, this has helped me and has prepared me for answering my essential question.
