Progress Week 1 – Luke

The first week of senior project I shaped a small fish style surfboard. This board didn’t take too long and came out very nicely compared to my past boards. I learned from shaping this board to strike down many with the one. This is to shape with efficiency and cleanliness. If I simplify the process the shape itself is far more simple, which is what works best in most cases on the water. I’m selling this board to my friend who currently has the board with him, as he is putting a visual design onto it. Once he finishes that I will start to glass this board.

  1. Luke, I’m intrigued by the expression, “strike down many with the one.” In terms of shaping the board, what does this actually mean? What is the the process for this work? I suspect also that “strike down many with the one” on a more figurative level may have implications for other parts of the project and maybe even beyond making surfboard. Would you agree? What might be required to “strike down many with the one” as a general principle for growth?
