Critical Reflection 3

For this last week, I was unable to record music in my studio due to last minute college touring. However, this did not enable me to continue my research on music making and mixing and mastering. I spent my time digging deeper into the Pro Tools mixing courses I signed up for a couple weeks ago. Although this wasn’t as fun as having my studio equipment with me recording, spending time researching, watching videos and explanations of how to properly mix vocal tracks helped prepare me to bring my songs to the next level. Now when I am back in New York, I have an idea of what sounds and plugins will fit my voice well, and what mixing techniques are crucial to making my songs sound stronger and smoother. I learned a lot more about physically cutting my vocal takes to put them exactly on bar and beat 1 which would allow me to move any track directly to a spot alleging with the instrumental music.

Along with continuing to dive into my Mixing Mastering Class, I used my time away from my studio to listen to instrumental beats I thought were good to record on. When I listen to these loops (the instrumental music) I like to record myself free-styling melodies out loud. This allows me to go back to these recordings and pick and choose specific melodies I liked. I also was writing lyrics, (my chorus and verses) so I was prepared to go straight to recording when I got back to my studio.
