1.How are you exploring your essential question; is it different from what you expected? If you don’t feel like you’re answering your essential question, what is happening that’s different from what you expected?
I like my essential question because it is interacting with my project nicely. I enjoy working with young students and helping them understand how their transition to high school will be. I didn’t expect to have as much fun as I am having because I am able to give these kids so much advice, especially those who are going to independent day schools. I am learning alot from them and they are learning a lot from me in my opinion.
2. Are you surprised by any of the challenges that you’ve faced so far? How have you met those challenges and what can you do going forward to deal with them?
I don’t have any challenges per say, I am able to work with the students on saturday ( full day of classes) and during the week I spend most of my time planning the class, grading, doing office work and attending full staff meetings.
3. Writing on your essential question: What have you learned about your essential question so far? What further questions do you have? and/or Has your essential question changed? If so, how? What do you want to know more about?
I have learned that these students are worried about not fitting in, they believe that the kids at their schools will be judgemental because they dont look like them and don’t have the same socioeconomic status. This was to be expected because I felt the same way going into LREI, now I will focus on helping them understand that they can make their transitions easier by not letting these thoughts get in the way of making friends and trying new things. I believe that they will have a hard time transitioning because everyone goes through it but at the same time I hope that my advice and my lessons help relieve the stress right now. I hope that with my lessons they have tools to deal with the difficulty of the transition.
