This week I’ve decided to do one-minute paper posts. The first prompt I’d like to do is: In your opinion, what was the most useful idea encountered today?
As this project continues, I am always looking for new locations and places to visit and learn about. As I was reading 500 Secrets of New York, I found several new places that I’d want to research and add to my lists of locations to visit. The first one is the Fearless Girl Statue in the Financial District. She is a brass statue facing the bull of Wall Street. It appeared on International Women’s Day to symbolize female empowerment and has become permanent. I’ve also been trying to pay close attention to plaques as I visit statues, memorials, etc. I want to explore how easy it is for people/tourists to access the history of the places and things they are surrounded by. I’m curious if it is commonly known that this statue resembles female empowerment or if it is just another statue passed every day and not recognized to its full value.
