Gwen Raffo – Week 2 Journal

4/23/21

Today I sent out my website, Instagram, and Discord server to a bunch of groups of girls that I have contact with. So far 10 people have joined, and it’s small, but it’s a good start. I still have to send it out to my troop as well. I also got to update my website with some pictures and bios from the people who are hosting events, so now my website looks a lot more professional and fuller.

I have a lot done today and it feels really good. I finalized 4 dates for guest speakers/Zoom events for the month of May, and reached out to a few more. I also finalized my website, updated my Instagram, and finished setting up my Discord, so now I can start promoting! As of now, I have two Badge Guides posted, and I’m continuing work on those so I can have more that cover different topics. So far for my Zoom events, I have:

  • Yoga with Jen (Wellness)
  • Yoga with Celeste (Wellness)
  • Mindfulness with Peggy (Wellness)
  • Presentation by Judaline Cassidy (Career)

So I am almost done planning my Wellness Series, and I’m doing a lot of reaching out for my Career Series. I am SUPER excited to have Judaline Cassidy speak because I’ve been following her work for a while now, and she’s super inspirational. As for the reaching out that I’m doing, here are some ideas I have for other guest speakers:

  • Amoy Barnes (running for City Council)
  • Silva Popav (resturant owner)
  • Kenna Mateos (volunteer work)

Today was kind of a slow day. I did a lot of editing the Badge Guides by myself so I can edit them with my mom later on in the week to finalize them.

I had another cohort meeting today, and we read each other’s Critical Reflections. It’s really interesting to see how everyone’s projects are going. I noticed that in Jack T’s reflection, he said he has to pay attention to the fact that his essential question is a “how?” question, and I noticed the same thing in my project. It’s good to know that I’m not the only one struggling with certain aspects of my project.
