A moment from this week that was fun and engaging was my field trip to The Metropolitan Museum of Art. I intended to only go there to look at works relating to the three Graces, however, through exploring, I actually spent a lot more time there than expected. While I came across some very famous pieces of art (including Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies – Claude Monet, Self-Portrait with a Straw Hat – Vincent van Gogh, Springtime – Pierre Auguste) I also saw some pieces that I’ve never seen before (including You’ll See Later – Goya, The Etcher – Stacy Tolman, etc). I enjoyed exploring the museum as I got to see many new pieces of art, as well as learn about their meanings and the artists behind them. I like that I got to see paintings up close, rather than just on a screen. It was a good experience and a fun adventure. I intend to continue to go out and visit more museums to explore different artworks. Hopefully, I will find more pieces that inspire me and my project.

After outlining my painting inspired by “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jette,” I found myself stuck after realizing that the proportions on the right side were a little off. The board that I was working with was not long enough to cover the entire painting. It was difficult to erase or re-do, therefore I decided that I would continue to work with it, rather than scrap it. I’ve realized that a lot of the work that I do is not going to be “perfect” and that it is okay as long as I am getting the main idea across. Obviously, I will continue to work on it the best that I can, but in terms of the proportions on the right side of the painting, I just made it so it didn’t look as squished (even though it was not as spread out as the original). If I could go back, I think that this is something I would change. I plan to work out the size of my paintings beforehand, so this isn’t an issue in the future. Although, so far, I have started my painting and despite it being a little squished, I think it looks decent.
