Here is my second homework assignment for my Design Communication I course. The assignment was to draft a simple chair in multiple views: front view, side view (both elevations), plan view, and axonometric view:
Mr. Carr was proud of how I was able to avoid smudging and erasure marks in my draft. I believe I accomplished this by attempting to touch my pencil marks with my hand and arms as little as possible. I also made sure not to put lines down until I was certain they would be correct. I think if I could start this assignment from scratch, I would spend more time filling-in the shadings for the different angles of my chair so that the marks are less noticeable. Another thing I would change, and this was the main feedback my teacher gave me, would be to thin/lighten my border lines for my text/labels. The lettering is a bit hard to read because of how thick the guidelines are. This is something I will be sure to work on in the future. I look forward to translating this chair into a 3D model!
Isabella, I think it is interesting to think about the ways in which a seemingly simple design can reveal some of its complexity as we shift our point of view. What felt easy and comfortable about this work? What was harder and revealed some areas/skills you’d like to lean into a bit more?
