While sewing my dress, I have been reading a book called Fashionopolis by Dana Thomas. I tried to keep the materials of the dress to be as sustainable as possible; I bought the fabric from Fabscrap and the zippers and clasps from a local, small business in my neighborhood. While researching, I have further found out about the importance of sustainability while creating these clothing items, America throws 80 pounds of clothing per person per year and in the UK 9,513 garments are dumped every five minutes. We need to increase the circularity of our clothes instead of buying something without thought and sending it straight to the garbage when we decide we don’t longer need it.
