Ever since I was a kid, I’ve played some type of sports. From my very first tee ball league when I was five years old to being a team captain of the basketball team as a junior, I have always loved sports. Before I was even a senior, I knew I wanted to do my senior project on something that I truly cared about, and had a passion for, so I chose sports. When thinking about my project and as it went through the many stages of the process, I also realized that I wanted to make my project surrounding food as well. I have been a picky eater for all my life and have never really grown out of it. So for my project, I wanted to do something that would completely take me out of my comfort zone and learn new things. What motivates me about this project is not only being able to grow as a person through the work I’m doing, but also providing anyone like me that wants to take fitness and nutrition seriously, the opportunity to do so.
How does living a healthy lifestyle affect someone athletically, and additionally affect other aspects of their life and how does changing a diet strengthen the mind-muscle connection within one’s body? That is the question that I based my entire project on, and as Socrates said, “Wisdom is knowing what you don’t know,” and really I don’t know the answer to this question yet. This is why I wanted to do my project. I wanted to take on a challenge and answer a question that I want to know as well as millions of other people that would like to know as well. There is a difference between I don’t know the answer, and I don’t know the answer yet. I may not know the answer to this question, but I know the exact steps and have a complete answer on how to find out. I know who I need to talk to, what I need to eat, what I need to work on, and how to treat my body. Now all I have to do is commit to my project and find out the answer.
Henry, your question “How does living a healthy lifestyle affect someone athletically, and additionally affect other aspects of their life and how does changing a diet strengthen the mind-muscle connection within one’s body? ” Seems straightforward, but perhaps too obvious. What I mean is, science will show only how improved nutrition and strength will only create good for that individual.
I think an important part of your study will be how hard it will be to stick to that plan and the challenges/setbacks you face while doing it. What types of things will you miss? Birthday cakes? Candy? Soda? Binging Netflix with family…What’s the cost?
