In this reflection, I wanted to compare and contrast the work I am doing here to the work I’ve done in music class in the past. Although when working at home on my music I am much more independent, some of the work is similar to what I have experienced in the past. In music class, Nick has taught us how to go about working with a “DAW” (Digital Audio Workstation), mine being ProTools. That has helped me understand the materials within the workstations allowing me to successfully record, find the tempo of an instrumental, and put my work on the beat. By putting my vocals on bars and beats, it allows me to move vocals anywhere throughout the song directly onto beat 1 making the vocal match perfectly with the instrumental.
I have not yet gotten too deep into the mixing stages yet. I want to fully complete my song before working on the mixing part. When recording, I like to put a little bit of autotune on my voice. Sometimes it is hard to find the right key to an instrumental. What that means is finding the pitch of the song to match with your voice to make sure when I sing, my notes are hitting the autotune correctly and smoothly.
This past week has definitely pushed me to work harder. I have never made my own songs without the help of friends or without other friends recorded verses on a song either. Being in the studio alone for hours pushes me to record to the best of my ability. It is hard being so independent in one work space because it gets super hot in a small working space like the one Im in and sometimes I can get distracted by my phone. However, I have learned that it is important to push yourself as far as you can go and music class In the past has helped me prepare for this. It has given me a reason to keep going, to keep recording vocals until I am set on one that I like. However, my process has been far from similar to the group projects I have done in the past. My process has already developed and changed since the first week. For the first time I am working independently choosing my path.
