I already know that there is a large mental health crisis going on in America that not nearly enough people are focusing on. This topic is important to me because I have always had an interest in psychology and mental health and I have personally seen what the benefits of a good therapist are. I have worked with the special olympics for years and have taken multiple psych courses before this project so I feel that I am coming into this project with a good amount of prior knowledge. The outside sources I have access to all agree that there is a crisis going on in America and I will turn to their opinion more as my project unfolds. It is important to find more about this question because I do not know nearly enough about it just like most people. I want to know more about how I can specifically help people with specific illnesses and/or in specific scenarios. The ares of inquiry I need to explore are mainly the specifics and the more specific facts like percent of people with mental illnesses and so on. Some other questions that could go hand in hand with my essential question are, “Why has covid been so hard for people”, “how bad was our countries mental health before Covid,” What does a mental health crisis look like?”
I definitely agree that your best course is to dive into the specifics of America’s mental health crisis. Maybe another angle for the COVID question is “is this COVID-infused crisis different than other mental health crises?”
I think your project is really interesting because you can take it in so many different directions. I’m wondering how you are going to narrow down what you write about in your handbook?
