I have always been fascinated with the way humans digest and process new information – the ways in which we learn. During lifelab in freshman year, I remember learning about different methods of learning (visually, auditorially, etc.) So far after a couple of days of Senior Project, I have already found entirely new concepts and studies on the way humans process information. I have started reading many articles on the famous Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences Theories and the way that we can tailor education to fit this theory.
I am excited to start the experiential portion of my project and dive into three different styles of learning. I know that as I continue to do more research on work like Howard Gardner’s MI theory, read my book, “How We Learn”, and undertake 3 different styles of learning I will begin to understand my essential question in a more nuanced way.
What don’t you know?
Understanding the science and methods behind learning can help me become my most productive learning self, and also help me relay and teach others in the most productive ways. Not only do I want to discover what it means to be a learner as Cole, but I also want to discover the application of learning to all other people, not just myself.
One important distinction for my project is the studying and research portion and the experiential portion. While I don’t doubt that an entire senior project researching methods of learning and the science behind it would be interesting, part of the project that makes it so interesting for me is that it is individualized to my styles of learning. The experiential portion of my project will help me understand myself as a learner better.
Undertaking this level of inquiry at such a young age enables me to not only become my best learning self but my most happy self as well. There is a difference between cramming information and learning happily to satisfy my curious inquiries.

Cole, I think you have a really ambitious and fascinating project. My only question is this: how are you going to balance everything you plan to do (scientific research, coding, internship, etc.)? I know the struggle of trying to just do 30 hours of research in one week. How do you plan to break up your days so that you don’t spend too much/not enough time with one particular aspect of your project?
