Essential Question: How do I use historical pieces of art with newer forms of art/pop culture in order to reflect a more culturally relevant set of ideas?
Throughout both middle and high school, I have found a deep interest in art. While art gives me the opportunity to relax, it also allows me to explore a range of various, and meaningful, topics. In James’ Art class, I have developed in executing new art techniques, understanding history, analyzing works, critical thinking, communicating, being creative, expressing myself, collaborating, and more. I have worked with many art materials before and have some general knowledge of certain historical paintings. I intend to expand on my techniques and knowledge. Based on things, such as news and observations, I am very aware times are changing. I want to demonstrate that through this project. Social media has helped inform my understanding of ways in which I can use historical pieces of art in order to reflect a more culturally relevant set of ideas.
Through art, which I personally really enjoy, I am able to develop as both a student and a person. With this senior project, I intend to use my art, as well as others’, to continue to learn, as well as teach. I want to grow in an area that I enjoy and may come up in my future. There are many paintings that I am unaware of or don’t know their meanings; the idea goes for art techniques (oil paint, etc). As of right now, I am not completely sure how to use most of the paintings that I’ve chosen to demonstrate a more culturally relevant set of ideas. As I am still developing solid ideas, I want my work to be meaningful and not sloppy. Other questions include:
- How do I demonstrate the development and growth of art/society throughout the years?
- How can I grow as an artist, student, and person (explore new techniques, get out of my comfort zone)?
- How can I gain a deeper understanding of historical paintings?
