Sofia Giglio – Final Project Proposal

Project Title: Sustainable Fashion

Essential Question(s):

How can I help create a more sustainable fashion industry? How can I help create less waste and more ethical work conditions?

Statement of Purpose

For my Senior Project, I will further my knowledge on sustainable fashion and learn how to create my own clothes sustainably. I will also learn more about the damaging effects of the fast fashion industry.

Overview: Describe your topic and project to the committee.

For my project I am going to further research sustainable fashion and the ethics of fast fashion and why it is exploitative of the environment and workers. I plan on creating a small line of clothes out of sustainable fabrics while researching the future of fashion. I want to see how I can inform people on clothing sustainability and how they can include it in their everyday life as well as why they should stop supporting fast fashion. This project will challenge me because I will learn how to sew better and sew more than I ever have before.

How will you measure your success?

I am measuring my success through how well I make the clothes as well as how much I learn through the process. I want to make at least 6 clothing items, however I’m not sure how long it will take me as I have never done it before so even if I made four I would consider it a success, however I would love to go over my estimate of 6.
