Project Title: Seeing Sound

Essential Question(s): How can I push forward my artistic skills to execute my work to the level of my imagination? How can I explore my interests in digital art in conjunction with music?

Statement of Purpose: For my Senior Project, I will compose a song using Logic Pro, take a course in Adobe After Effects and create an animated music video with the skills I have gained.

Overview: Through this project, I am combining different interests of mine and exploring them in depth. In doing that and creating work that demonstrates my understanding and growth, I will have answered my essential question. My project is rooted in learning and trying new things, something that will be challenging but fulfilling. With that said, there are bound to be setbacks along the way, both academically and creatively, but because I am interested and motivated by this work, I am sure that I will be able to overcome those. This project serves as an important end to my experience at LREI as it is a self-led project that revolves around passion and learning new skills, two ideas that fall in line with the mission statement. In addition, the project reflects the 4Cs, with the learning process involving critical thinking and courage to try new things, creativity in the product that I create, and citizenship in the things these skills will allow me to do for my community in the future.

My Goals: 

• Through the process of making my song, I will become more skilled in music creation and in using Logic Pro
• Learning and becoming familiar with Adobe After Effects
• Learning to work visually alongside music
• Expanding my creative vision into motion and 3-dimensional forms

My Schedule:

Week 1

• Lesson 1-12 of Motion Design Course (Beginning to understand basics of the application)
  • I will be taking 2-3 lessons a day from this course which will take up the majority of my day
• Working on song for the final project
  • In the time between course work, I will work on my song

Week 2

• Finishing motion design course  (By this point I will have a good understanding of the software and the ability to move forward in my project.)
• Finishing song for Final Project

Week 3

• Storyboarding/ planning animated project (Creating sketches of shots and how they will time up with the music)
  • Through the first days, I will get all of my ideas out through rough sketches, then narrow down and finalize them before the end of the week
• If possible begin mapping out in After Effects

Week 4-5

• Creating Final Project in After Effects (These two weeks are very necessary to ensure that I have enough time for obstacles that come up, and the very time-consuming process of creating the animations themselves.)
  • Day to day I will be illustrating graphics from scratch and animating them, as I say this will be very time consuming

Week 6

• Finishing creating animations and finalizing my project, making sure everything is running smoothly, timing movements up with the music, and adding effects.

Documentation Plan: Throughout my project, I will take pictures/screenshots of my work aswell as documenting my thoughts in the moment.

Material Needs:

Backup Plan: I don’t really have a backup plan because my project does not rely on any moving parts or other people, so I don’t see any way that it could go wrong.
