I want the focus of my research for this independent study to be on one of the major pillars of philosophical thinking: Value Theory. Below is a list of books I’ve checked out that I plan to read during the 6 week experiential part of senior project, most of which have to do with value theory and it’s pillars, ethics and aesthetics. The focus on value theory will give me the inspiration and material I need to complete the photography portion of my project. My other resources will provide me with a general philosophical understanding so that I can identify key works by well known philosophers and explore the more complex aspects of philosophy by introducing modern day conversations and exploring the combination of my modern day interests (like politics) and philosophy. By the end of my project I would like to have studied or at least learned a little bit about the following topics: Aesthetics, Ethics, Logic, Epistemology, Metaphysics. I would also like to walk away from this project with an understanding of the history of philosophical thinking and the future of philosophical thinking.
GOALS:
- Explore the above mentioned topics in depth and document accordingly
- Use photography effectively to explore philosophical ideas
- Share my findings through meaningful and creative documentation
The above image is a schedule I made for the month of April and part of May. I included images for the relevant books, podcasts, and videos that I want to explore during the 6 weeks. I might end up switching some things around once I get into the groove of things but this is a basic structure of the works I’d like to explore first, starting with the crash course series which will give me a broad understanding of everything I’ll study. I have 6 hours everyday to explore the necessary material and document. The days I highlighted pink are days I hope to take pictures so that I can do a weekly post on Friday where I talk about the highlights of what I discovered that week.
I plan to document my project daily through journaling and weekly through instagram posts (this might vary – I might want to post more than just one day but for now I’ll just say that I must do a post on Friday to conclude the week). Every two weeks I will upload a blog post that will summarize my progress. The blog posts will also give me a chance to reflect on how my project is going, what improvements I can make, things I’ve changed, etc.
