Research for my I- search

Films

  • Beyond the Invisible, Hilma Af Klint
  • Gerald Richter Painting
  • David Hockney: A Bigger Picture
  • Black Art: In the Absence of Light
  • The Price of Everything
  • Simon Schama’s Power of Art
  • Whoever Heard of a Black Artist? Britain’s Hidden Art History

This process will help me to start understanding how people talk about art and gather an understanding of how the art world works. For each film, I will write responses and their importance to my project, understanding how the artists thinks is an important building block to this project. For my paper, I will either directly or indirectly reference these films as tools in gathering a greater undertstanding of the world of Art.

Creative Action Plan                                                                                                         Scheduling and Planning

Creating the blog and Formulating the visual aspects of the project. Using my knowledge of Website development and design, I will create a color profile and theme for the blog while also designing a Navigation system that allows for viewership of each day in the experience.

While I am at the museums, I will use digital and film photography and video to document the process. Photo and video production of this size needs pre production work. When using film emulsions, I will first have to decide on a color, contrast, hue and saturation profile that is consistent throughout the images. To do this I must decide on one type of film to use throughout the process and secure enough of it made on the same date. This project will be heavily documented starting with posting photos from each day of the experience and then eventually creating videos compiling the experience.

In the first few days of the project, I will plan out each day according to the museums I see that day. Planning multiple museums in one day and figuring out the timing of each destination. Some museums because of the pandemic, require an appointment which will be made during the first few days of the project.

Planning the order of the museums is also important, there needs to be a diversity in each week, in funding and content. After the thirty days I will be primarily working on creating a visual journal, inspired by days spent in museums. What needs to be planned out before is obtaining materials and deciding on which mediums I will use to step outside my comfort zone. I will primarily be experimenting with mixed media practices using my photography. Securing studio space will also need to be planned out, scheduling time in a darkroom outside of school and possibly talking with artists about improving my practice.

The blog, created and designed using skills I learned in the Website Development course at LREI. I will look at popular UX designs and templates with the intention of creating my own unique look for the blog. It is likely that there will not be an in person Senior Project night so the blog will be a permanent place where my project can exist. Each Museum will have their own page consisting of pictures taken by me and a journal entry about the visit, depending on the institution, I am hoping to have at least 400 words per day. The Blog will have an interactive component, I want this project to inspire people to go to the museum or even appreciate art to a great extent. Each museum will have four distinct components on the blog: a journal entry with an op-ed style commenting on the art seen that day and adding needed anecdotes about the institution’s niche.  The Art aspect of this project is going to be across multiple mediums. This project is meant to help me better understand visual inspiration, not emulation. Since ninth grade, I have taken an interest in film photography so I will be documenting the entire project through that lens. In the last three months, I have started to experiment with different mediums, linoleum printmaking, embroidery, and drawing with oil pastels. I am hoping to create art using each of the mentioned mediums and hopefully more. I am interested in sculpture specifically throwing on a wheel but I would have to depend on the school’s resources. The art made during this project will exist on the blog with images of the inspiration seen in the museum along with a short response, around 200 words. The response will summarise my process, why I was inspired and a description of the art piece seen in the museum. The Blog will show the art separately from the pages that talk about my experiences at the museum.
