What is your guiding, underlying question?

My guiding question is how can I use my singing and songwriting skills to create a 4 song EP using Pro Tools software.

What if any steps, experiences, or products have you identified as necessary for answering your essential question?

To successfully reach this goal, I plan to meet with several different people who are all in the music industry. First, I will meet with Nick weekly to make sure Im on the right track and for improvements on my drafts of songs. This will help me organize myself and push myself if I ever feel behind. I will also be meeting with Reggi Condos who did a similar project last year. He has experience with singing and songwriting and could be a great person to get feedback from to help bring my tracks to the next level. I have worked with him the in the past and he is great at giving constructive feedback, knowing when something could change or be better. Finally, once my songs are finished, I will work with my dad to mix them to get them to their final stage. My father is a great producer and will help with the mixing side of this project while I work on the singing and songwriting. Another necessary thing I need to do to answer the question of how I can create this EP would be managing my time well. I plan to work 2-3 hours a day on my project. Because I have an old studio in my house, (from my parents being in a band) It allows me to work independently all the time, instead of having to go out somewhere to work. The only materials I need for this project, is a mic and monitor and I already have that set up. I would also like to record my EP using 1 addition musician. Marlowe has been a great influence to me since the beginning of my interest in music and I would love to feature him on a song or two. This also allows me to get one more person reviewing and giving me specific feedback throughout my process.

What form do you propose your project take? Explain what you already know about the area of study or professional field you will be immersed in. Describe how you hope to spend your time during Senior Project. (This should be largely the same idea you’ve developed based on your feasibility work.)

My work will be displayed through the songs I end of making. By making a 4 song EP, I can show my hard work and diverse music taste throughout. My parents being singer songwriters themselves, I have always been around musicians and understand the time and effort one needs to put in. It is not easy to finish one whole song and I understand that I will have to manage my time well. I hope to spend 2 to 3 hours a day working and finishing ideas that I lay out.

What do you hope to learn through this experience? How do you see the proposed experience addressing your essential question? How will you know you have had a successful project? How will you tell the story of your project?

 

I hope to learn and look forward to the struggles I will face. I understand that making songs, especially 4 in only 6 weeks could be hard, but I am prepared to learn how I can better myself and better my time management to assure I am on track. I have made songs in the past with friends, but have never really focused on my own capabilities when it comes to making music. For me, singing and songwriting comes with many other aspects that lie underneath. To make a song, you need to think of melodies that will catch a listeners ear. Creating catchy melodies can be hard, but I am prepared to make the best songs I know I can do. The EP will show my finalized work throughout the weeks we have and I will talk about my experience working alone, working with students and musicians who all have an ear for music.
