Making music and songwriting has been something of great interest to me since the beginning of quarantine. This has not always been something of importance to me as it is a new found interest. This interest comes from my mom and dad’s careers of being musicians. I was gifted a small music recording setup last year and began familiarizing myself with the materials I had and materials I needed to both record my voice into the software. I began finding instrumental beats off youtube and using them to record my voice onto. I am not rapping, but writing lyrics and singing melodic melodies over the beat. ProTools is a recording software I would like to use to create my songs. Singing and songwriting will definitely be the focus of this project. I am more eager to continue to strengthen my songwriting skills as well as continuing to create melodies that flow on top of the beats. For the production and mixing side, my father has been working with ProTools for several years now and he could help mix my songs toward the end.
My essential question is how can I use my singing and songwriting skills to create a 4-6 song EP using ProTools. I believe setting the goal to make 4-6 songs is reasonable. This allows me to spend hours each day getting better at working through a dense software like ProTools. For this project I would love to bring in my friend marlowe. He is a great inspiration to me because we started this passion together over the summer facetiming and sending each other our verses back and forth creating a few unfinished pieces. I would love to have him featured on a song or two. I would also like to try and reach out to some professional producers and songwriters to hopefully get feedback on a couple songs and use that to improve my work.
Julien – This is a good framing of your music project idea. I think the project outline could be enhanced by adding more detail on your songwriting resources and plan for documenting your creative process.
