William Connelly- Initial Plan Draft

“My purpose is to explore and compose thoughts on agriculture and/or sustainability so that people can get the nutrition they need and live in a sustainable world”

“How can I explore agriculture and actually make an impact in feeding and supporting a sustainable world?”

Starting with this purpose statement, my thinking and planning for my senior project is as follows. I will work on my uncle’s family’s farm during the senior project time. I hope to get valuable work experience and see firsthand how a farm runs and operates in order to feed the world and remain profitable. This time of year is when there is planting and preparing for the crops that will grow and be harvested in the summer. This will give me great hands one experience on how farms work all year round to feed us and how there is more to farming than just the harvest. I’m hoping I will be able to work on specific projects on the farm as well that could benefit sustainability and everyday workflow so that I can make a lasting impact on the farm.  I have planned to speak with my uncle very shortly so that I can confirm the feasibility and be confident that this will work. The Corona-virus is not an issue as it is very easy to work on a farm and be socially distanced. None of the work is indoors, and in a field, it is easy to be very spread out.

“How can I blend sustainability with creativity to pursue my passion for making and creating in an ecologically friendly way?”

My back up plan is to work on and develop the Brand REWORKED with Emmett. This also interests me very much because it is all about sustainable use and how a brand can work sustainably while also being creative and producing products. I would design and produce and fix clothing, tools, computers, software etc. We would also develop marketing plans to spread our message and a public face for the company (an Instagram).  We could also possibly develop a website. This would not be affected by the coronavirus, as we would make everything online and would not have to interact with people.
