My main question as I move further along in this project is what the work environment of an architecture firm is like on an everyday basis. Having done lots of research on design and architecture programs, one thing I have learned throughout the college process is that a person’s experience in architecture school is extremely different from their experience at a firm. Before I (hopefully and potentially) dive in to a five-year-long professional program, I would like to see what I am getting myself into. Even if I come out of this experience certain that I would not like to pursue a career in architecture, I will be happier than if I never got to experience a firm in the first place. If I am able to intern for an architecture firm, I would get this first-hand experience I desire to be a part of. I do not imagine designing or even contributing to any actual projects. My goal is to get a feel for the experience of being a professional architect. This internship seems extremely possible, whether in-person or online, as long as I can find a firm that would be willing to take me. When I spoke to Allison about this idea a few weeks ago, she told me that LREI has many connections to architecture firms around the city, and that a senior last year was able to intern for one, even during the height of the pandemic. I think this idea could be very possible.
