Emmett Adjmi – Initial Plan Draft

  1. The essential questions you hope to explore

I have always been passionate about the history of objects and how they progress over time. I’ve tried to understand the history and evolution of things such as tools, electronics, workwear, etc. I am wondering if it would be possible to do something with the past while also moving into the future. Can I use my fascination with the past to move forward? Making and building things is another thing I have always been interested in. I am wondering if instead of using new resources and creating more waste, I could use old and obsolete things and rebuild them into something new. Can I build things to reduce waste? Another question that has come out of my passion for building things is how can I reflect my city in the objects I create? I feel connected to New York and I want to create things that reflect this connection.

  1. What you might do in order to explore those essential questions (the shape your project might take)

I could build/outline a business that aims to rework and preserve old objects so they can be used again. I would take objects that would otherwise be sent to the landfill and rework them into new usable things. This could be clothing, tools, old electronics, and more. The business would be aimed at New Yorkers and be connected to the city. I could create a catalog that shows the products and how they can be used in the city. With a focus on underground New York and exploring the city. The catalog would be distributed to build awareness of the project.

  1. The feasibility of this project — is it possible? Why? What might be an issue doing this?

I think my project is very feasible and I don’t see any problems with creating it.
