Iv’e always had an interests in nature. I have been backpacking many times and learned how to live and respect it. I also did a semester away at Chewonki. Not only did I work on a farm, spend 48 hours in the woods alone and studied the eco systems around me, I also had energy and sustainability seminars every week. They showed us what each building, car, person does and how it effects our environment. It was scary. But it made me more interested about energy efficiency in my own neighborhood and in nyc as a whole.
I continued to work on the farm there and sat in with the head farmer as she showed me how to run a farm. the time and energy put in in just the planning part of it let alone the actual labor work. I learned about where my food comes from and how it relates to certain neighborhoods. I also looked into which neighborhood has the most energy used by just buildings.
My purpose is to educate people on how much energy is being taken up just simply by residential and commercial buildings in NYC and how we can avoid/help fix it to make it a greener city.
I want to write a children’s book about green energy in the city. Use a child super hero figure. – just one idea
