Critical incident: I was speaking to a waitress at the restaurant I work at and she was explaining all of the different customs in her Peruvian culture. I was so intrigued about these amazing events and wanted to know more. Additionally, she expressed her frustrations in feeling that Latinx cultures are put under a single story. In school we do not learn about about the customs in Peru or the history of Chile- and so much more. I want to explore the different “Spanish Boroughs” in NJ and learn more about the culture and history in these incredible countries.

 

Strengths: I am passionate about Spanish and you will find me speaking it at every opportunity. Whether it is to my co-workers at work or acting as translator for GO Project- I love it. I highly enjoy communicating with others and am definitely not afraid to put myself out there. I feel this fearlessness will work to my advantage when trying to find people to talk too.

 

Purpose: To learn more about Spanish countries and cultures- whilst practicing my Spanish skills. Learning, will help me break that single story that has  been installed in society and the education system.

 

Share: I am not quite sure how I will share this information, but I am thinking of creating a website to document these stories. I love graphic design and am familiar with the website creation process. I am also experienced in documenting interviews- as I previously did this for an honors project.
