Since my family began quarantine, we have been playing a lot of board games. At first, this was a lot of fun, but as time went on, we all began to get bored of the games we had learned, but the idea odd learning a new game that could consistently occupy our interests was daunting, and in the end, our time playing games together slowed, and eventually stopped. Though this may not be the biggest issue, I want to create an easy to learn game with complex mechanics that can keep people playing and encourage interaction. My interest in making games began in 10th grade where I took a course over the weekend to learn about game design, and I loved it. Though the program was short (once a week during a trimester) I became deeply passionate about it, working hard to create a board game as a part of a group.
As part of this project, I’d like to create a fun game that is easy to learn, but complex to master, and can get people to interact face to face. I can use what I’ve learned about game design in tandem with my desire to create a certain type of game to try and execute my vision. I’d like to end this project with a better understanding of board game development, from conception to production, as well as have a finalized game for people to play, understand, and enjoy. For a project like this, I believe having people to interact with is important, as I can use people as playtesters to tune my game into something that fits the criteria I have set out.
