My purpose statement: “To connect with people so that the world becomes a safer and healthier place”

I think this makes a lot of sense for me and the direction I want my project to go in because I would like to focus on health and climate change. This would connect environmental justice with access to natural and medical resources specifically for women.

I would like to discover why climate change disproportionately affects women globally and how.

Initially, learning about how planned parenthood was founded by a woman who sterilized black women without their consent made me want to learn about medical disparities. Along with how women’s health is extremely limited in certain areas more than others. This initiated my passion for the aspects of women’s health and prosperity that connects very deeply to environmental well-being.

During my senior project, I want to research the ways that women are affected and eventually document these disparities with photography and video.

While this won’t lead to immediate change throughout the world, I will have an elevated understanding of the cause and effect that is climate change on women. This knowledge allows me to not only educate others but continue this research in the future long enough to make meaningful change.
